President's Message

On behalf of the Lions Club of Kitchener, I would like to invite you to join in the fun and fellowship that makes our organization the best in the world.  From anti-drug programs in Lions Quest, local volunteerism in our communities, to vision screening, education, and prevention in Sight First, Lions Clubs International is truly a worldwide effort of dedicated volunteers.

Our mission stems from a committed individual, Melvin Jones, who, in 1917, envisioned an expansion of existing service clubs from "purely professional concerns to the betterment of their communities and the world at large".  Since then, Lions Clubs International has grown to include 1.3 million men and women in 45,000 clubs located in 205 countries and geographic areas.

Our core efforts revolve around Helen Keller, and her challenge to Lions to become "Knights of the Blind in the crusade against darkness".  Lions clubs have been actively involved in service to the blind and visually impaired since 1925.

Through our Club's efforts in the community with Oktoberfest, Santa Claus Parade, K-W Citizen of the Year, the annual Magic Show, break open tickets, and many other events, the Lions Club of Kitchener has been able to touch the lives of local athletes and sports groups, assist in diabetes awareness and prevention, and provide services for local youth and youth around the globe.  Vision and hearing-impaired children and adults in our community, in Guatemala, and around the world have all been touched by our commitment.

The members of the Lions Club of Kitchener are proud to wear their Lions pin, proud to serve in the community and unselfish in their "move to grow". To quote our International President Eberhard Wirfs, "Lions need momentum or movement to grow and progress".

We meet every first and third Monday of the month between 6 and 7 for social gathering followed by dinner and we are always looking to expand our team of dedicated volunteers.  If you think you would enjoy a bit of fun mixed with a whole lot of hard work to help your community, please contact us.  We'd be glad to tell you a whole lot more about Lions and why we think it is truly the best service club in the world.

Yours in Lionism,

Darren Inder

President, 2009-2010
